Chippenham League: Staverton hit nine in cup rampage
Second division Staverton completed the line up for the second round of this season’s presstoprint-sponsored Eric Hughes Memorial Knockout Cup after thrashing third division Pig & Whistle United A 9-0. Jason Povey led the scoring with a four-timer which included a first half hat trick. Levi Wood, Zac Manna’s double and goals from captain Matt Hall and Simon Parfitt completed the mauling.
With S.K. Fruits Limited, Chippenham Sunday League, Premier Division leaders Biddestone Social in Sunday Cup action, FC Jager closed the gap on Dan Lardner’s side to two points after they ended Colerne’s impressive 19 match unbeaten run. Jager ran out 3-0 thanks to goals from Nick Ridout, Dan Moore and Emilio Menghini.
Westbury Rangers suffered a 6-0 defeat against Semington Rovers just a few weeks ago, but their gained revenge for that loss by claiming a 3-0 win with all the goals coming in the second half. Adam Bishop’s double and Dan Cox’s single where their first goals for the club.
Bradford Renegades are the new leaders of Division one after maintaining their 100% start to the season with a 8-4 home success over previous table toppers Corsham United who played their part in a very entertaining game between two of the division top sides. Goal machine Sam Jordan hit four for Renegades, Lance Davis (two), Jordan Pinder and Ashley Styles added the others with Ben Thomson (two), Jamie Murphy and James Hernandez replying for Corsham.

Castle welcomed close neighbours and fierce rivals Bromham (Sunday) their pitch at Sands Lane, Rowde for this local derby between two sides currently at the wrong end of the table. It was Castle who prevailed as they ran out 5-3 winners. Liam Hill (two), Gary Campbell, Marcus Wallen and Jack Fisher scoring for the Castle. Dan Sheppard and Troy Thomas with two claimed Bromham’s consolations.
North Star A remain bottom of the table after they were beaten 6-1 away at fellow strugglers FC Boroughs. Sam Parker top scored with a four timer, Anthony Brown and Kevin Bridgeman made up the half dozen. Jamie Lloyd-Davis was on target for North Star.
Steeple Ashton Rangers suffered a blow to their promotion hopes after they were beaten 2-0 away at Prestige Bodyworks for whom the result was sweet revenge as Ashton had won the reverse fixture 5-1 earlier in the season. James Pope scoring both for Prestige his second which clinched the win coming from the penalty spot.
Goatacre CC made the most of Staverton’s league inactivity and they moved level on points with Aaron Letchem’s team at the top of Division Two after beating bottom of the table Wren FC 11-0, but had it not been for Wren’s keeper James Sherman who produced a number of great saves the result could have been a lot worse. Mike Coulson found the target five times, Harry Warner helped himself to a hat trick, Joe Tillyer (penalty), Darren Holcombe and Conner Raferty added singles.
Somerford who lost to Staverton in their last league outing got the win they needed to get their promotion challenge back on track, the villagers hosted GRFC and they claimed a comfortable 5-2 win. Ashley Monaghan and Chris Yeo shared Somerford’s goals, with Monaghan scoring 3 to Yeo’s 2. Robbie Burton and Matt Baker lead a GRFC comeback early in the second half but it wasn’t enough.
White Horse closed a the gap at the table to just two points after their 9-2 demolition of Southwick Wanderers which saw them net six times in a frenetic opening 22 minutes and ended the home side’s mini-revival of recent weeks. Dale Rowland hit three, Jordan Gullis claimed two and singles from Chris Stiles, Pete Ayton, substitute Andy Bartlett and Dave Appleyard who started the scoring completed the rout. Tom Mann and Ryan Underwood’s efforts were just consolation for a Wanderers side who were well beaten.
Sutton Benger came from two goals down at half time to draw two apiece with Kings Arms (All Cannings). A Jacob Rogers double put Kings Arms two up before Phil Baker halved the deficit with eight minutes remaining and Steve Gawke earned Benger their draw with a goal in the 88th minute.
Bremhill View Boys remain in the Division Three relegation zone but Garry Marshall’s side must be wondering what they have too do to get a win as they were beating local rivals Talbot 2-0 at the break but surrendered their advantage as Vic Long’s hosts turned on the style in the second half to run out 3-2 winners. Goals from Kieron Gleed and Caner Ozkaya put Bremhill on course for victroy but after they missed a penalty Talbot made them pay and Aaron Clegg’s double and Shaun Ward’s 25 yard stunner won it for Talbot.
Christian Malford playing their first game for a month were involved in a nine-goal thriller at home to North Star B who were looking for a fourth successive win but due to indiscipline that saw them have two players sent off they came up just short as Malford won a cliff hanger 5-4. Mark Kmiec, James Frayling, Scott Evans and Stephen Lynch put Malford four-up before Adam Welsh replied for North Star. A second from Welsh and Steve Mallard’s double squared things up at 4-4 before Lee Payne grabbed the winner for Malford, things may have ended differently had Star not had Rob Lymath and Clint Couzens sent off at 4-2.
Although Cavalier suffered an 8-1 loss away at Corsham Park Rangers the hosts were made to work hard in the first half and only led by two goals at he interval. Garry Lock scored a second half treble to add to goals from Matt Spear, Kent Kauppinen, Joe Forester and Kadir Ayhan who scored two. Roger Wiltshire replied for Cavalier.
Sportzcoach Dragonz United avoided a potential banana-skin at home rivals Melksham Cosmos to open up a one-point lead on their Division Four opponents led by FC North Wiltshire. The teams fought out a thrilling 3-3 draw when they last met and the reverse fixture was just as exciting with Dragonz taking maximum points after a late penalty save from keeper Alex Shaftoe earned them a 3-2 win. Tom Reynolds hat trick seeing Dragonz to victory after goals from Marc Scammell and Matt Brock had twice brought the scores level. Jason Hull had the chance to earn Cosmos a point but saw his penalty saved by Shaftoe.
Crossblades continued their rise up the standings after taking a point from Pig & Whistle United B who after an impressive start to life in the league have now gone four games without a win after their latest adventure end in a 1-1 stalemate. After a goal less first half Ben Owers put Blades ahead when he followed up after Carl Gilbert had his penalty saved. Dan Goldsworthy scored for United with second left.
FC North Wiltshire moved into second spot after their 10-2 drubbing of Oakhill who dropped into the bottom two after their fourth defeat of the season. Dan Deacon led the carnage, with six, Simon Gray joined in the fun with a hat trick. Dan Dring’s single made up the 10. Dan Payne and Tom Webb with his first goal replied for Oakhill.
Old Road FC slipped out of the top two for the first time this term after they were beaten 5-2 at home by a Worton & Cheverell (Sunday) side who also beat them 6-3 earlier in the season and they proved that was no fluke result as they came from two down to claim the spoils. Adam Foskett scoring both for Old Road before goals from Danny Williams, Chris O’Donovan and Ben Strange turned the game around. A second half double from O’Donovan saw him complete a hat trick to give his team another incredible success.
Trowbridge Town Supporters Club defeated FC United of Chippenham 5-4 to claim a third straight win, in a match that swung one way and then the other the result was never a forgone conclusion as United battled to the very end in a match wasn’t for the purest but produced plenty of goals for the neutral supporter. Goals from Dudley Philpott, Alex James (two) and Adam Gerrard were not enough for United as Dean Coles, James Crawford, Andy Williams and Stuart Little with two won it for the supporters’ club.
The Chippenham Sunday League will have five representatives in the third round of this season’s Wiltshire Sunday Cup, along with holders FC Jager, AFC Melksham and FC Brunel, victories for Biddestone Social and Fortune Inn put them in the final 16. However their was heartache for second division Chippenham West End who suffered a 5-1 loss away at Penhill United who were just too strong for the visitors to Swindon, Carl Britton scoring their goal.
Premier division leaders Biddestone Social beat Dilton Rovers 8-0, Martin Johnson scored a four timer, Tyler Sibbick (two), Nathan Phillimore and the ever youthful Mickey Baggs made up Biddy’s eight.
The all-Chippenham League tie saw Fortune Inn beat Trowbridge Rangers (Sunday) 10-1 to set up a third round meeting with FC Brunel. Nathan Ball scored for Rangers who trailed 2-1 at the break. Joe Hylands and Ryan Kubulius scored three each, Matty Jenkins double and singles for Adam Shipman and Ryan Bell completed the scoring.
