Chance to get plastered at hospital
Visitors to the Royal United Hospital will be able to see what goes on behind the scenes next week.
Tours of the hospital's facilities are being offered before the RUH NHS Trust's annual general meeting on Wednesday.
From 3pm until 6pm people will be able to book on to one of the 30-minute tours, which will take in the cardiac cath lab, where cardiologists carry out lifesaving procedures, and the endoscopy suite, to learn about how doctors investigate inside the body to identify the cause of a patient's symptoms.
There is also a chance to see the plaster room, and one visitor will see how it feels to be in plaster.
A patient simulator demonstration will take place, where guests will meet the Sim family.
Sim mannekins mimic the responses of the human body by breathing, speaking and bleeding, and provide realistic training for staff.
Tour times are: 3pm and 3.30pm, plaster room; 4pm and 4.30pm, cardiac cath lab or simulation demonstration; 5pm, endoscopy or simulation demonstration; 5.30pm, endoscopy.
To book a space contact Helen Perkins on 01225 824032 or email helen.perkins@ruh.nhs.uk.
The AGM takes place at 6pm in the neurology outpatients department.
It will include presentations from consultant geriatrician Dr Chris Dyer on how the trust is improving care for patients with dementia, and consultant physician Dr Louise Shaw about improvements in stroke care.
