Budding Bath chefs cook up a storm in schools competition
Budding young chefs at a Bath school have been battling it out to make it through to the finals of a cookery contest.
Students at Ralph Allen School took part in a Cook Off for the new Bath and North East Somerset Young Chef Competition, in the hope of making the final stage at Ston Easton Park in the new year.
They spent an hour cooking a main meal dish of their own creation for two people, for under £10, and to include two portions of vegetables.
It was assessed for the appearance, the flavour, level of skill, recipe originality – whether it was a creative spin on an old classic or something entirely new – and healthy eating.

They were judged by head of food technology Sue Rogers and school catering manager Debbie Ovens.
Mrs Rogers said: "I am thrilled to see our students enjoying cooking so much and developing their creativity.
"I have been so proud of the food they have produced, many of the dishes being adapted from the ones we make in lessons. I wish we could send them all through to the final."
