Adie Britton has called on football fans in Bath to prove the city can support a top-flight Conference club.

Bath City boss Britton has guided his side into the Blue Square South play-off zone on the back of an eight- match unbeaten run.

They will be looking to make that nine when promotion rivals Thurrock, the only side to beat City since the turn of the year, visit Twerton Park for a crunch encounter on Saturday (3pm).

And Britton, whose men scored an impressive 2-0 win at in-form Welling last Saturday, said: "I really hope the supporters come out in numbers and give us some good, vocal backing.

"It never ceases to amaze me how many follow us away and the travelling support was fantastic again at Welling, but if the club is to progress then more people need to start coming to see us at home.

"I'd love to think we could have a crowd of 800 there on Saturday, but I'd be hopeful that if we can keep this unbeaten run going over the next three or four games then at some point we'd see a dramatic improvement in attendances at Twerton Park.

"If we can't get it when we're in the position we're in now, then really it will prove that the club is not in a position to progress to the Conference Premier."

City's average gate this season is just below the 600 mark and Thurrock – one of the most poorly-supported clubs in the division – are unlikely to bring more than a handful of away fans.

It is the first fixture in a March programme that Britton says is key to his side's play-off hopes.
