“We consider it a privilege to be in a position to make a positive contribution to a local club, especially as it will be to the benefit of so many residents.”

John Carling, chairman of Bradford on Avon Amateur Swimming Club, added: “The £8,000 will be used to support a number of activities we struggle to fund. These include courses for our volunteers, particularly new teachers, coaches and lifeguards, without whom our club could not exist.

“Some of the money will support swim sessions that cannot self fund due to the lower number of participants, such as our special-needs swim sessions.

“We will also now be able to fund extra development mini swim galas for our younger swimmers and hope to encourage more participants in these from local primary schools and the wider Bradford community.”

The Southern Co-operative in Bradford on Avon is now taking applications for up to £10,000 funding with its 2013 Community Support Card scheme. Visit www.thesouthernco-operative.co.uk for details.
