More than 800 homes across Bath were left without electricity after two separate power cuts within 48 hours.

The first incident happened at around 5.35pm on Saturday night when there was a problem with the substation in Dorchester Street.

It affected 486 Western Power Distribution customers, but 97 per cent of those were reconnected within the hour when the company switched to an alternative supply.

There was a second incident involving the substation in Batheaston at around 5.52pm last night, which left 329 households without power.

Again, most of these properties were switched onto an alternative supply and the situation was resolved relatively quickly.

A spokeswoman from Western Power Distribution reassured customers that the two power cuts were not related and that work was still going on at both substations to fix the problem.

People across the city, including Bathampton, Widcombe, Larkhall and Combe Down, took to Twitter across the weekend to complain about the cuts.

Some reported a total loss of power, both in the house and street lights, while others said their lights had been flickering on and off.

Anyone with a problem should contact Western Power Distribution on 0845 6012989 or, in an emergency, on 0800 365900.

“We had a black out in South Parade on Sunday night. Power went off at 10.45pm. We contacted the power suppliers and they said someone was at the substation trying to fix it and 95 properties were affected. The power came back on at 11.30pm.”
