Jannina said: "I am very passionate about the prevention of the poaching of elephants and rhinos.

"Experts say that the poaching of these animals means that they could be extinct within the next decade.

"I would like to think I could raise £50,000 for this cause."

Retired teacher and actor Jannina has been training for the walk by doing regular exercise, including swimming and lifting weights. She has also walked her dogs twice a day.

Friends and family will help her on her travels around Ireland by acting as back-up drivers, including husband Tom Henderson.

Back in 2006 she completed an impressive 4,500 mile walk around the coast of Britain with her two dogs, raising £33,000 for charity.

She then published a book on her return entitled A Bit Far For You Dear, of which all copies were sold.

She hopes to do something similar on her return from the Irish walk.

However, Jannina said: "This is probably the last really big walk I do.

"I'm 62 now, but it is good that older people do these kinds of things.

"I do want to try and walk some of the other islands around Britain though."

Thus far more than £400 has been pledged for the walk through her JustGiving page.
