FENCING Bath Sword Club members Jane Hutchison and Leslie MacDonald returned from the Commonwealth Veteran Championships in Singapore with team gold medals.

Hutchison, pictured in action, lost a tough duel 10-6 to fellow England fencer Beth Davidson in the final of the women's sabre. She had battled her way through the rounds, defeating Australian Alex Andre in the semis.

Bath's Michele Neary, representing Scotland, reached the last eight.

Hutchison and Davidson joined forces with Janet Cooksey and Grace Coulter in the team event and comfortably defeated Australia in the final to clinch gold.

Another Bath member, Gillian Aghajan, was part of the bronze medal-winning Welsh team.

MacDonald reached the quarter-finals of the individual epee, which attracted a strong field of 46 fencers. He topped the podium in the team event, though, after England edged out Australia in an exciting clash.

Hutchison is competing alongside fellow Bath members Sue Benney, Sue Brooks and Andy and Lynne Bornemisza at the World Veterans Championships in Krems, Austria, this week.
