Bath schoolgirl Tania Gilbert wins British weightlifting title

Teenager Tania Gilbert went one better than a year ago as she was crowned British Schools’ weightlifting champion in Birmingham.

The Hayesfield School Year 10 pupil, the South West’s sole female representative at the competition, triumphed in the 58kg weight group.

Gilbert, who celebrates her 16th birthday this week, lifted 42kg in snatch and 55kg in clean and jerk to improve on her runners-up finish of 2012.

Her success also earned her a place in the British under-18 squad. She thanked her coach, Ollie Mansbridge, with whom she trains at CrossFit Bath on Oldfield Lane.
