Former Bath schoolboy Henry Thomas is training with the England senior squad ahead of Saturday’s RBS 6 Nations opener against Scotland at Twickenham (4pm).

The 21-year-old Sale Sharks prop, who attended King Edward’s School, has been called up to England’s training base at Pennyhill Park as temporary injury cover for Alex Corbisiero, who remains at London Irish for treatment on his knee amid fears he could miss the entire tournament.

Ugo Monye (Harlequins) will also train with the squad while another Bath-raised player, Freddie Burns (knee), stays at Gloucester for treatment.

An England Saxons party featuring Bath Rugby’s Kyle Eastmond, Tom Biggs, Nick Abendanon and Nathan Catt met up in Newcastle today ahead of their match with Scotland A at Kingston Park on Friday, February 1 (8pm).

Biggs and Eastmond were involved in last Friday’s 14-10 win over the O2 Ireland Wolfhounds in Galway.

Will Fraser’s late try rewarded the Saxons for their display of forward power and added to three difficult penalties from the boot of Bath-bound fly-half George Ford.
