Nick Edwards, Joint Administrator, said: “As part of our ongoing review of HMV’s financial position, we have now completed a review of the store portfolio and have identified 66 loss making stores for closure. This step has been taken in order to enhance the prospects of securing the business’ future as a going concern.
“We continue to receive strong support from staff and are extremely grateful to them for their commitment during an understandably difficult period. All other key stakeholders remain very supportive and I continue to be hopeful of securing a future for the restructured business.”

“Amazon can undercut HMV through tax avoidance strategies. There is a report in the newspaper today that Amazon pays it's staff 1p above the minimum wage. If HMV closes down the online market will be your only choice, I for one will pay, and have paid the extra couple of pounds for a CD music album or Blu-ray movie from HMV rather than fund it's demise by using Amazon.
Incidentally, recently I have seen some Blu-ray movies selling for more on Amazon than in HMV.”

“Good news for the staff. Great news for the public as HMV represents an ever shrinking outlet for music, video and games on the High Street. Supermarkets can't and don't offer such a wide selection of any of those three, unless it's in their "Top 20" you won't get it from the supermarkets.
All that remains to keep HMV going is to use it. Use it or lose it as they say!”
