YOUTH CRICKET Bath and Corsham scooped the silverware as the Bath & District Youth Cricket League came to its customary finale on Bank Holiday Monday with its cup finals day at Keynsham.

Players served up a high standard of cricket throughout the day, which saw the under-11, 13, and 15 trophies up for grabs.

Bath lifted the under-11s cup for the fifth time in six years, making up for the disappointment of missing out on the final in 2009.

They faced home club Keynsham in front of a bumper crowd and proved too strong for their opponents in a game played under Barrington Rules, where each side has eight players who bat in pairs for four overs.

Bath produced some excellent and aggressive cricket, although Keynsham had their moments.

Captain Hankins top-scored with 26 as Bath compiled an impressive nett score of 108, having sacrificed 30 runs for the five wickets they lost.

League president Brian Harrington commented: "The standard of the cricket being played by these players now is at least two years ahead of the standards when we first set up the league.

"I only saw a couple of wides bowled in this match of primary school aged kids, which is fantastic."

The under-13 final was the first of two all-Wiltshire affairs, with Corsham pitted against Trowbridge.

Corsham went one better than their runners-up place in 2009 as they completed a league and cup double.

Trowbridge were all out for 73 but still had a chance of victory. However, Field (25no) and Foley (20no) navigated their team to victory, passing their opponents' total by the 15th over to complete an eight-wicket win.

Three members of the under-13s side turned out for Corsham in the under-15s final with Biddestone, who were beaten by ten wickets. Draper (43no) and Mitchell (76no) starred with the bat.

League chairman Martyn Webb and Harrington held a presentation after each final.

The four umpires, who were provided by the Bristol & Western Counties Association of Cricket Umpires & Scorers, were handed mementoes, while all finalists received a medals.

Webb thanked Keynsham Cricket Club for hosting the event, Target Accountants for their generous ongoing sponsorship of the league and to all the participants and clubs that made for a highly successful day.
