A former corporate high flyer has explained why her new business is helping her strike a work life balance.

Libby Thomas, 34, moved to Bath from London just six months ago but in that time the mother-of-one has launched a new online company, which hopes to help mums-to-be.

The company, Minimoki, is a website selling everything prospective parents need to take to hospital for labour. Mrs Thomas said after starting a family of her own she realised there was a gap in the market.

She said: "When I was pregnant I went on a course like everyone does and they give you a massive list of all the things they recommend you take into hospital but at that point I wasn't in any mood for shopping but I couldn't find a website that helped."

Before going on maternity leave Mrs Thomas had worked in advertising at Microsoft.

However, after returning to work following the birth of her daughter Rosie, she soon realised the corporate world was not family friendly.

"Although they were an amazing company to work for I felt I had done that corporate fast-paced atmosphere," she said.

Mrs Thomas then spent over a year researching her idea of a website dedicated to parents preparing to go into hospital, and sourcing suppliers for products such as breast pads, baby grows and breast feeding bras.

"It's very specific – it's just for labour but I've tried to include everything mum will need from maternity wear and baby wear to toiletries."

The website has a pick and mix section where visitors can choose different items to order, or there is a bundles section which is suitable for gifts from friends or work colleagues but includes practical items.

“What a fantastic read and a killer-unique idea! I ran this by my loving wife and now she wants kids purely because of Minimoki. Keep up the hard work, Libby!”
