Bath jobs to go as Jessops goes into administration
Camera retailer Jessops has gone into administration meaning all of its stores, including the one in Bath, will close.
The company has almost 200 shops nationally including one in SouthGate, which has nine members of staff, and employs around 2,000 staff across the country.

Edward Williams, Rob Hunt and Matthew Hammond, from PricewaterhouseCoopers, were appointed as joint administrators of The Jessop Group Ltd on Wednesday.
In a statement last night, Mr Hunt said: “Since my appointment, we have reviewed the position of the business and held extensive discussions with suppliers around their support for ongoing trading.

“It is apparent that we cannot continue to trade and as a result we have had to make the difficult decision to begin the closure of all 187 Jessops stores at the close of business today.
“Regrettably, this will result in around 1,370 job losses across the stores with further job losses likely, in due course, at the head office in Leicester.
“The stock will be collected over the coming days and returned to a central warehouse. It will be returned to suppliers if they are entitled to it. As a consequence of the closure, Jessops is no longer able to accept returned product from customers.
“This is an extremely sad day for Jessops and its employees. We are very grateful for the support we have received since our appointment and we will continue to ensure that employees are paid as they assist us during the closure.”
Updates for consumers will be available through the Jessops and PwC websites shortly at www.pwc.co.uk/jessops.

“"The days of high street retailers are numbered."
Indeed, it would seem so. Most High St. shops try & sell you what they have in their, limited, stock, rather than what you want; or should I say, more accurately, what they want to get rid of. More often than not the most assistance a sales assistant can offer is to ask "can I be of assistance to you?".
The best way to find out the quality of a product is to garner the opinion of other purchasers. Where better to do that than on the likes of Amazon & then click to buy at a greatly reduced price than in town.”

“I stopped using my camera ever since I got my first phone with a built in camera. WHY would the average Joe want a camera as well as a smart phone? The warning signs have been around for some years now that camer shops would be hit by sales. Jessops didn't do someting about it and so got wiped out! That's just the way life is these days. Flow with the times or get your lights turned off!”

“Oh dear, I bought my last camera from them and their price was the lowest of all the competition. Perhaps they were too cheap?”
