Bath coach crash victims Baroness thank fans from hospital

Members of an American metal band who were injured in a serious coach crash on the outskirts of Bath are making a good recovery.

The Baroness tour bus came off the A36 in Monkton Combe, dropping 30ft off the side of the carriageway close to the junction with Brassknocker Hill.

Miraculously nobody was killed in the accident, but a number were taken to both the Royal United Hospital and Frenchay Hospital in Bristol for treatment.

Lead singer John Baizley suffered a broken arm and leg, while drummer Allen Blickle and bassist Matt Maggioni were left with fractured vertebrae.

Guitarist Pete Adams escaped with more minor injuries and is now back in the United States.

Three of the five crew members who were on the bus have also been treated and released from hospital, but the driver of the bus was left in a more serious condition.

A statement from Baroness, which was posted on the band’s Facebook page, thanked the fans for their prayers and messages of support.

It said: “Thank you to all of you who have been sending the tidal wave of positivity our way. We are uplifted by its sheer magnitude, and power.

“Every single one of you is making our days and nights easier and our recovery quicker. Thank you all so much, we are truly lucky to have such incredible people on our side.

“A sincere and heartfelt thank you from each of us to each of you.”

The cause of the crash, which happened last Wednesday morning, is now being investigated. Anyone with information is asked to contact Avon and Somerset Police on the non-emergency number 101.
