Ed Martin will be hoping he can carry on the family tradition of winning titles next month when he enters the UK's premier boxing league.

The 29-year-old Bath carpenter grew up hearing the stories of grandad Charlie's prowess in the ring during his day's as an army boxing champion.

Now Martin has vowed to emulate that success when he travels to Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey on Saturday, September 22, to challenge Southern Area cruiserweight champion Steve Orford for his title.

It is part of the Queensbury Boxing League, a fast-paced competition launched in the last 18 months, and with the event being filmed for Eurosport, a good performance may see the fight shown on the channel.

"I've boxed on a lot of smaller shows before but nothing like the scale of the league," said Martin.

"When I first saw it on British Eurosport it looked amazing and I knew instantly that I wanted to be a part of it.

"I've seen the champion in action on Youtube. He's strong and likes to come forward, which suits me down to the ground, and I think our similar style of fighting is going to produce an explosive mix when we get inside that ring."

Martin's title showdown will be one of 14 fights on the packed card of boxing.

More information about the event, as well as ticket details, is available from www.queensburyboxing.co.uk.
