Rising Bath Rugby prospect and former Kingswood School pupil Chris Cook has been named in the England Under 20 Elite Player Squad.

The 19-year-old scrum-half is included in a 32-man group that head coach Rob Hunter describes as “a great blend of skill, pace and power”.

The squad will compete in the Under 20 RBS 6 Nations in the New Year before heading for the IRB Junior World Championship in Italy next June.

Also named in the squad is Saracens centre Owen Farrell, the son of dual-code international Andy.

Hunter said: “It’s a very talented group and competition for places has been very high. There are some good players who missed out on a place in the 32 who will continue to push for inclusion.

“Within the squad there’s a great blend of skill, pace and power and we can’t wait to see them wearing the England jersey.

“It’s an exciting time to be involved with a new management team and a new squad coming together.

“The England age group programmes are a key part of developing future international players and the progress made by the likes of Courtney Lawes and Ben Youngs into the England senior team last season is testimony to that.”

Fly half George Ford has been promoted to the England U20 squad at the age of 17

RFU head of elite player development Stuart Lancaster said: “We think this is a very strong squad with competition for places in each position and it reflects well on the work the regional academies are doing.

“A lot of these players have come through our age group international programme and that reflects how well the development pathway is working with players progressing through from the 18s into the Under 20s and then hopefully pushing for places in the Senior and Saxons EPS Squads.”
