Robinson, who played for and coached Bath during his glittering career, said: “Tom has worked his way into the Bath first team squad from the academy and we’ve been monitoring his progress for the last couple of years.”
Heathcote was recently short-listed for the 2013 LV=Breakthrough Player Award in England.
He was called up by Scotland after stand-off Ruaridh Jackson was one of five players released from the squad by Robinson following the 21-10 defeat by South Africa.
Heathcote joined the Scotland last night and the team will be announced tomorrow.
Bath Rugby First Team Coach Mike Ford said: "This is fantastic news for Tom and the Club. His form last season, and what we've seen this season, has been very mature for his age and he has impressed a lot of people with his attitude and skill level – we are delighted for him."
