Bath Civil Defence are planning a day of celebration to mark their 70th anniversary this year.

The club was formed back in October 1942, just a couple of months after the Bath blitz, when the Civil Defence was given government funds to purchase hockey balls, sticks and goals. Original fixtures were played against the local Army, Navy and Air Force personnel billeted during wartime and played on grass pitches at locations such as St Martin's Hospital and Odd Down Playing Fields.

Founder member Leslie Nott's enthusiasm kept the club going in the post-war years and it is a tribute to his dedication to Bath CD, which has around 40 members, that it continued to flourish.

Details of the anniversary celebrations have yet to be finalised but the club is hoping to add to its known history and is appealing to anybody who has had any involvement with Civil Defence to get in touch.
