Former Fulham and Yeovil Town attacking midfielder Andrejs Stolcers has signed for Bath City.

The 35-year-old, who has won 81 caps for Latvia and played in the 2004 European Championships in Portugal, cost £2million when he signed for the Cottagers in 2000 from Spartak Moscow.

Stolcers will play for City on a non-contract basis with a view to signing until the end of the campaign and is set for a place on the bench against Woking at Twerton Park this evening (7.45pm).

Boss Adie Britton said: "He trained with us last week and quality oozes out of him.

"I became aware of him through talking to an agent about available players.

"He is training full-time with Yeovil at the moment and wants to play and coach in this country.

"He's a good lad, intelligent, and can play in a number of attacking positions but we'll have to see where we go with it long-term. With a small squad, I have to be extra vigilant that anybody who comes in is going to do a job for me."

Stolcers boasts Champions League experience with Spartak and has won titles in Russia, Latvia and Azerbaijan, as well as the old Division 1 championship with Fulham and League 2 crown with Yeovil.

He left these shores at the end of his one season with the Glovers - 2004-05 - but returned to Somerset last month after two years as player-coach at JFK Olimps Rīga in his homeland.

And Britton indicated that more new arrivals might follow Stolcers to Twerton Park in the coming weeks as he looks to freshen up his squad for their  Blue Square South play-off push.

"I am looking to bring a couple of players in and get a couple who haven't played much recently out on loan," said Britton.

"We've had a tough six weeks or so and the club might have to speculate a little bit to accumulate on the back of our cup run.

"It was fantastic to see so many people there for the Forest Green game on Saturday and we'd like to get them back for a play-off game later on.

"The club had so much publicity and I said to the lads afterwards that if they have 25 good games between now and the end of the season then they can play in the Conference and in front of crowds like that every week."
