Talented local under-16s players are being given the chance to join Bath City’s new Academy intake in September.

Youngsters at the Academy – based at Radstock’s Writhlington School – combined their students with a comprehensive football curriculum, involving ten hours of structured professional coaching a week.

Academy director Billy Clark said: “It’s a great opportunity for local players looking to develop as a player whilst also studying.

“The scheme allows players to follow a curriculum similar to a professional footballer, with our long-term aim being to provide a player pathway for individuals to access first-team opportunities.”

Students will be able to access a full range of courses at Writhlington and have the opportunity to complete the FA’s Level 1 and 2 coaching certificates, as well as a refereeing qualification.

The Academy squad currently tops the South West Counties Youth League and also competes in the English Colleges FA League.

It has been running for more than three years and two of its former students have graduated to City’s under-21 development squad while studying at the University of Bath.

Academy trials are being held at Writhlington on Tuesday, February 12. For more information and to book a place call Billy Clark on 07968 086836 or email bclark@wsbe.org.uk.
