Nick Brooks-Sykes, chief executive of organiser Bath Tourism Plus, said it brought in an estimated £11 million to the local economy.
He said: “After a few days of unprecedented bad weather at the beginning of the Christmas Market, I am delighted that visitor numbers are in line with our expectations. Clearly, our Christmas marketing campaign – the biggest ever – which we undertook in partnership with the Bath Business Improvement District (BID), has worked and the city’s retailers are seeing the effects of this.
“The Bath Christmas Market remains a firm favourite with both locals and visitors and is responsible for generating significant economic impact for the area.”
First time trader Becky Hamblin of the Bath Pig Company, said she was overwhelmed at the amount of trade she received on Saturday.
She said: “Business was quite slow on the first weekend due to the weather, but we certainly made up for it on Saturday. It also helps that we’re a recognised brand around Bath with our chorizo-based products proving popular as stocking fillers.”
The market is open until this Sunday. For more information visit, www.bathchristmasmarket.co.uk.

“And as if pop-ups aren't bad enough do we have to have musical pages?”

Exactly how do you record visitors in an open space?? Every tourist in Bath was also in that particular area on Saturday to visit the Abbey/Roman Baths/Tourist Information Office (if they could find it!), so any count includes all of them too. if the market was inside a controlled area like the Rec i'm sure the figures would be more precise and a lot lower!
I agree with Nemo (for once!) as everyone I know avoids town for the duration too, so maybe it is counter-productive for the shops in the rest of the town.”

“24000 visitors, 11 million quid spent, Its a pure guesstimate!
Never mind it could never be anything but a soaring success could it?”

“Almost all the local people to whom I have spoken in the past few days agree on two things:-
1. The Christmas Market is a load of over-priced tat, sold in grotty timber sheds crammed into the most inappropriate parts of the city centre
2. They avoid the centre whenever the market is there and shop elsewhere for a more pleasant experience.”

There they go again with the estimated millions!! Prove it!!
We were in town on Friday morning and it was lousy with people but footfall means nothing if people are not spending their money. Instead of counting feet check how many bags they are carrying to get the TRUE picture! I suspect there was a lot of looking going on after which they became some of the VERIFIED millions shopping online yesterday - Mega Monday!”
