Bath Chronicle

BBC Points West’s Bath reporter and BBC Radio Bristol presenter Ali Vowles answers the questions in our My Bath feature

1.What's your favourite part of Bath?

I have to say I love it all – but the walk along the canal from Sydney Gardens to Widcombe is pretty special, especially on an early misty morning. I love the walk down Lansdown Hill, along the Circus and the Royal Crescent and through Victoria Park. And we are spoilt for country walks – South Stoke, Combe Hay, Midford – all just a stone's throw from the city centre.

2.Where's the best place to eat?

I've lived here for over 25 years so have had lots of favourites. Current choice? For a treat – Menu Gordon Jones. That man can cook! Worth the three-month wait to get a table. The White Hart at Widcombe is consistently good. A great Chinese restaurant – it's got to be Hon Fusion. And the new cafe at the Holburne Museum is always good for coffee, cake and lunch!

3.What's the best view in the city?

I'm always fascinated seeing the different views of the city. Looking down from Alexandra Park is one of my favourites and the Camden Road across to Prior Park is fantastic. I've just taken up cycling so the views are always the carrot to get me up some of those killer slopes.

4.What would your perfect day in Bath entail?

An early run through South Stoke on a sunny morning, meet some girlfriends for a coffee in town and a mooch round the shops. Watch my lad play hockey or do a bit of gardening and then cook a meal with my husband for our favourite friends and children. Perfect.

5.Where would you meet friends for a drink?

So many places to choose from. Marlborough Tavern, the Wine Vaults, the Hop Pole – it just depends on the mood! I really miss the Packhorse at South Stoke.

6. What's your favourite shop?

Mr B's for books, and the mushroom stall at the Farmer's Market in Green Park Station. Just too many others to mention.

7.What one thing about Bath would you change?

When I'm getting up early to present Saturday Breakfast on Radio Bristol or present the early TV bulletins for Points West, I wish I could move Bath right next to Bristol.

That way the alarm could be set for 4.15am and I'd get an extra half hour in bed. Apart from that, I'd leave well alone. Bath seems pretty good to me.

● Ali is on BBC Radio Bristol every Saturday morning presenting Saturday Breakfast from 6am to 9am on 94.9 FM and 104.6 FM. Catch her TV reports on BBC Points West BBC1 6.30pm.

● Next week – Framing Workshop owner Martin Tracy
