Pushing the limits of the string quartet, the ensemble is more a band than a classical group; reflecting Balanescu's passionate belief in fluidity between music genres.
Balanescu Quartet has writing and performing style unlike any other string quartet and their live performances are full of energy and dynamism.
They have collaborated with composers like Michael Nyman and Gavin Bryars, Lounge Lizard John Lurie, Jack de Johnette, Ornette Coleman, David Byrne, the Pet Shop Boys, and developed projects inspired by Romanian traditional music as well as Kraftwerk, appearing in settings from New York's Knitting Factory, London's Roundhouse to The Lincoln Centre and Wembley Arena.
Tickets, costing £17, can be booked on 01225 386777.
