Avon RFC cannot repeat famous Wells win
Lightning did not strike twice as Avon RFC, the last team to win at Wells’ home fortress back in 2011, slipped to a 28-6 defeat at Charter Way.
Saturday's defeat left Avon just above the Western Counties North danger zone, while Wells – who were also promoted from Tribute Somerset Premier last season – moved up to second.
Playing with the wind behind them in the first half, Avon’s powerful pack had the edge and their efforts were rewarded with a 6-3 lead courtesy of two Rob Fitch penalties.
However, the Wells backs started to play an increasingly influential role after the break and scored three tries to turn the game on its head.
