Brenden Hood, a self-confessed Australian "rugby nut" from Brisbane, swapped his Queensland Reds jersey for the blue, black and white of Bath last Friday night when he visited The Rec to watch his adopted Aviva Premiership team entertain Northampton Saints.

Hood "fell in love with the city" when he last visited some 12 years ago on a school cricket tour and been following Bath's fortunes on the rugby field ever since.

He signed up for Bath Rugby Supporters' Club after being hosted by its chairman Glyn Edwards on Friday and is now its furthest-flung member.

Hood has met John Connolly, the former Bath and Australia head coach, several times back in Brisbane and was accompanied by his wife, Elizabeth, and sister-in-law, Bernadette, during his week-long stay.

The Hoods' European trip also took them to Greece, Italy, Germany, Finland and Ireland, so Brenden was delighted to be introduced to injured Bath lock Ryan Caldwell, and to discuss the delights of Belfast.

He said: "It's great to know that a fan from so far away is welcomed with open arms and treated with such kindness when they turn up at The Rec. The Supporters' Club is a fantastic thing to be part of."
