A367 bus lane defence
Peasedown Councillors who object to the new bus lane on the A367 should complain to their Lib Dem colleagues who supported the bid for funding this very bus lane in 2005 when they shared control of B&NES with the Tories.
All the critics of the new bus lane have failed to answer the question: who loses as a result?
Not the bus passengers who get an improved journey. Not the car drivers who won't have a bus in front of them for that distance and are otherwise no worse off. And not the B&NES council tax payer since this is a nationally funded scheme
CLLR JOHN BULL (Leader, B&NES Labour Group)

“Well, this letter certainly explains why the B&NES Labour Group has always led the way in terms of political irrelevancy. As the entire party political process in this country appears hell-bent on lobbing itself off a cliff into oblivion, with the full support of a disillusioned electorate, it's nice to see this small band of political "operators" have given themselves a healthy headstart.”

“Spend £1m on the bus lane to no-where which we don't need or spend it updating the baby care facilities at the RUH which we do need.
Now is it obvious Mr Bull why people object to this waste of money.
And please don't insult my intelligence by giving us a load of nonsense about it coming from different budgets - I don't get a choice whether my taxes get allocated to sensible hospital construction or daft dead end road schemes so I have to rely on the various elected representatives not to tip MY money down the drain.
It is perhaps also worth pointing out that Mr Bull was also in favour of the rejected proposal to build houses on a former allotment site in Larkhall - perhaps he just specialises in backing daft schemes!”

“Is this Councillor for real?
Who loses? £1 million of taxpayers money on a pile of tarmac and some tins of white paint.
We lose, we do, us! Its our money!
Its a white elephant .A solution looking for a problem. A monument to sheer incompetence.
And this Councillor is a leader. Thankfully.... not mine.”

“Party politics is so childish - please get the message councillor people like me don't give two hoots about your tribalism.
All we want is honest people that do their best for the people they are elected to represent. Work with each other and do the job you were elected to do rather than trying to score points from each other to fuel your own ego.”

“So John Bull has finally discovered the secret of 'magic money'. If it was Government funded the losers are the UK taxpayers who have seen a million quid wasted on this pointless bit of tarmac.”
