£2.5 to revamp town college as vocational hub
College bosses in Trowbridge have revealed plans for a major £2.5 million revamp of their campus, to meet growing demand for vocational courses.
Extra workshops will be created within existing buildings at the Wiltshire College site in the county town for plumbing and electrical courses, with a new library, learning resource and foyer entrance.
The Government is funding the revamp, some four years after it pulled the plug on Wiltshire College’s ambitious project to take over the abandoned site of the closed-down Bowyers pork pie factory in the town centre.
That meant the college remained at its current campus, and funding problems since then have seen plans to stop the commercial use of the Arc Theatre. Part of the £2.5 million project will see new rehearsal rooms close to the theatre, and space created for building sets too.

Trowbridge was one of just 19 colleges nationwide to win cash from the Enhanced Renewal Grant project, and the whole project should be finished by next September.
Di Dale, the college’s principal, said everyone was “really excited” by the plans. “They will locate all the core student facilities at the heart of the campus,” she said.
